Mom-to-be Ellen Pompeo showed off her growing baby bump as she returned home from a visit with her Grey’s Anatomy co-star Katherine Heigl and her new daughter Naleigh, 10 months. After a 6-month wait, Katherine and her husband Josh Kelley brought home their adopted baby girl this weekend!

“It’s been a big part of my life and my family,” Katherine told Ellen DeGeneres this week of her decision to adopt. “My sister is Korean and my parents adopted her back in the 70s and so I just always knew that this is something I wanted to do.”

Former Grey’s star T.R. Knight was also spotted on his way to visit the new mom and her family this morning.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ star Katherine Heigl is taking a break from the hit show.

People magazine reports that Heigl is taking the break to film her new romantic comedy, ‘Life as We Know It’.

EW.com says that Heigl will miss five episodes of the new series.

A spokesperson for US television network ABC told People: “Katherine is taking time off to film a movie. The producers at ‘Grey’s…’ have accommodated past things like that before. It’s a cast of 13 and it is a true ensemble so the show is mindful [of other commitments].”

People reports that Heigl’s break will begin this month and will last until November.

Her character Izzie’s absence will be explained in the series.

Heigl will not be paid for the episodes she does not appear in.

Mom-to-be Ellen Pompeo was joined by 25 friends, including Kate Walsh, Sandra Oh and Rebecca Gayheart, for a baby shower held Saturday afternoon at Katherine Heigl’s home in the Los Feliz section of Los Angeles.

Pompeo and her husband Chris Ivery are expecting a baby daughter in October.

As an eyewitness told PEOPLE, “Ellen looked gorgeous in a white summer dress with her hair in a braided up-do. She seemed very excited to celebrate with her girlfriends.”

The catered, outdoor baby bash was held in the backyard. Umbrellas shielded guests from the heat – L.A. temps reached 104 degrees Saturday – and pink flower arrangements and candles accented the tables.

Guests brought gifts wrapped in girly pink and yellow colors. Many of the gifts – which included a Sleep Sheep toy mobile, Sleepy Safari stacking toys, organic hooded towels and a Kiddopotamus organic swaddle wrap – came from the Juvenile Shop in Sherman Oaks, where Pompeo is registered.

Earlier in the day, Pompeo and her girlfriend Nicole Richie – who also is pregnant – shared some special time together.

Pompeo has not let her pregnancy slow her down. When not busy filming new episodes of Grey’s Anatomy, she keeps in shape with workout sessions at a local gym. In addition, she and Ivery are remodeling a new home.

Katherine Heigl is the perfect leading lady, according to The Ugly Truth director Robert Luketic.

“Look at her! She’s beautiful and funny and vibrant and touchable, she’s accessible,” he gushed.

The Australian filmmaker loved working with Katherine on the romcom so much that he’s already shot another film with her and is looking for another movie for them to collaborate on.

“Three weeks ago, we wrapped a movie called Killers with Ashton Kutcher which we filmed in the South of France and in the US so that was fun,” he said.

“It was a very big kind of action movie, very different to this. We are looking for our next one.”

Robert also heaped praise on Gerard Butler, who stars alongside the Grey’s Anatomy actress in the romcom.

“With Gerard, it’s just non-stop filthy jokes, but he can get away with it because he has this class, charm and wit,” he revealed.

“He’s actually a very, very kind hearted person, which I think is a very unique quality in my business. He cares about how other people feel and is very considerate of his co-stars and of the crew. He’s working with some of the biggest actresses in Hollywood right now yet he’s still just a very grounded person.”

He added: “Gerry does interesting things like he’ll go to India where nobody knows him and just go on treks to connect with human beings. He’s very special, he’s a special man.”
